Finish carpentry for builder-grade houses
Carpentry in McKinney mostly means making a production-built house feel like it was built for you: bookcases on both sides of the fireplace, a real mantel instead of a bare stone face, crown molding, a mudroom bench by the garage door, or a barn door where a swinging door never fit. Our carpenters measure the space, sketch the piece with you, and build it to fit walls that are rarely perfectly square, then caulk, fill and paint or stain so it looks original to the house. Call (972) 439-9694 for an estimate, backed by our one-year written workmanship guarantee.
Most homes in McKinney, Frisco, Allen and Prosper were built from the 1990s on by large production builders, and they share the same builder package: flat walls, thin baseboard, a stone or tile fireplace with no mantel, open niches, and wire shelving in every closet. Those houses are solid, but the trim is where they look generic. In the older homes around historic downtown McKinney the job is different: matching original casing and repairing wood that has been painted many times.
We also handle the carpentry behind other projects: exterior and interior door installation, window trim, cabinet repairs and replacement, pet doors and storm doors, beadboard and wainscoting.

Materials
Paint-grade or stain-grade
Paint-grade
MDF and poplar take paint smoothly and hold their shape, which makes them the usual choice for white built-ins, trim and wainscoting.
Stain-grade
Oak, maple, alder, cedar and pine show their grain under stain. They cost more and need cleaner joinery, because every joint stays visible.
Reclaimed and rustic
Rough-sawn and reclaimed boards suit barn doors, mantels and accent walls, and each one looks a little different.
Cost
What affects the cost of carpentry
Size and complexity
A pair of bookcases with doors and drawers takes far more time than open shelves.
Material
Stain-grade hardwood costs more than paint-grade MDF and poplar.
Finish
Paint or stain on site is part of the job and adds time.
Ceiling height
Built-ins and crown in two-story rooms need scaffolding and more material.
